Monday Harvest

This morning over at M&M Farm I got the farm stand out and running with lettuce mix, peas, radishes, herbs, tomato seedlings, and art for sale. I also came down to the Middlebrook Farm School to harvest the lettuce, peas, cilantro, and dill.

Last Day of School

Final day of the school season and then it's back to the farms, at school and at home, full time. This morning I was able to put up bean poles and plant pepper and eggplant seedlings. This afternoon the final batch of cucumber seedlings will go in. Also be sure to check out the front page of The Wilton Bulletin where the Middlebrook duck family is headline news.

Nearing The End

This being the last week of school has helped keep me from getting in to the garden and taking proper care of the growth situation. Of weeds that is, but with a few half days coming up I may be able to find the time to clean up the beds. Spinach, lettuce, and radishes are being turned under soon to make way for more tomatoes and possibly peppers and eggplants. Anyway, here are some shots of flowers that are still blooming around the campus. Stay cool.

Make Way For Ducklings

Starting yesterday the mama mallard started knocking on the doors of the courtyard with her beak to let us know that it was time for us to let her and her flock out into the wild world. So this morning with the valiant assistance of Mrs. Shaw, our custodians Mr. Amaral, Mr. Martinez, and Mr. Calligros we herded the ducks down the Six Green hallway and out to the back woods where they went on their own down to the river. See you next spring ducks.

Not Two, Not Five, But...

...Seven ducklings are the new edition to the Middlebrook family. They have taken up residence in the Science Courtyard off the Media Center and will be with us for a couple days before we need to wrangle them outside so they can be near the water. Here are some shots I took yesterday afternoon (we are getting a good soaking today).

The other good news is that the garden peas have started to come out and should be ready to pick as sugar snaps in a few days. Come by and check them out.

Introducing...

...The newest members of the Middlebrook family. We have been keeping the new nest of ducklings on the hush hush so that mama mallard could try to have some peace and quiet despite the mowing, weed whacking, picnickers, and after school gawkers. Anyway, it hasn't been much of a secret, but last night or early this morning at least four eggs hatched. They will all have to be relocated to where there is water, but that may have to wait until the ducklings begin walking. If you can manage, please let them be.

Survivors and Volunteers

Today found a hearty survivor, a booming tomato plant that survived the cold spells

And either a cucumber, squash, or pumpkin volunteer from last season.
